The Dogue de Bordeaux
Big, affectionate, and full of character, these are dogs you live with—not just dogs you have.

A companion with presence.
The Dogue de Bordeaux, often called the French Mastiff, is a powerful, affectionate dog with an unmistakable face and a softer side that surprises people. They are happiest close to their people, and their size means training, everyday care, and a cool place in warm weather all need to be taken seriously.
Living with a Dogue is lovely, but it is also practical. Their size and strength mean that space, patient guidance, and socialization deserve real thought from the start. They want to be close to their people indoors, and they need a cool, comfortable place when the weather is hot.
They are not a breed for a hands-off home. A growing Dogue needs time, consistency, and people who understand that a sweet puppy soon becomes a very strong adult dog. Every dog is an individual, of course, but I hope families will take time to learn about the breed's needs before bringing a puppy home.
The Dogues I know are happiest when they are included in everyday life: resting nearby, following the family from room to room, and being part of what is going on. If you are considering one, I am happy to share what our day-to-day life with them is really like.
Meet the Bordeaux Legends Dogues ↗Questions to ask before choosing a French Mastiff
Are we ready for a large, powerful dog?
A Dogue de Bordeaux puppy grows into a substantial adult. Think through everyday walks, visitors, vet appointments, and a comfortable place for a big dog to rest. Consistent guidance matters more than expecting a puppy to outgrow difficult habits.
What will our routine look like?
Consider how your family will make time for socialization, patient training, daily care, and companionship. Ask a veterinarian about health, exercise, and feeding needs appropriate to the individual dog, especially while a puppy is growing.
